Promoting Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (DVD)
Dr. Felton Earls, professor of Human Behavior Development at Harvard University’s School of Medicine, discusses his seminal study, “The Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods,” and the revealing outcomes the study revealed. The study defies commonly held stereotypes about poverty in urban environments and found that poor immigrant neighborhoods in Chicago have some of the highest levels of collective efficacy, meaning citizens in these neighborhoods take action to improve their environment and community.
Dr. Earls also points out that for cities to achieve positive change and to revitalize, the process must include citizen action in order for it to be sustained. To learn more about these issues watch, “Promoting Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods.” (Length: 18 min.)
