Eli Broad, philanthropist and founder of the Broad Foundation, discusses the Grand Avenue Project in downtown L.A. This project will provide a city center for the sprawling urban landscape of Los Angeles and create a large public green space for everyone in the city to enjoy. Broad also discusses the importance of promoting cultural tourism as a sustainable way to expand urban economies.
Broad has long been known for his interest in promoting the arts and his extensive contemporary art collection. And he has become a major force behind L.A.’s emerging status as the contemporary art capital of the world pointing out that 35% of the artists in the 2006 Whitney Biennial were from Los Angeles.
